Miami, FL – Anti-war activists, students and Palestinian Americans gathered here to commemorate Al Nakba, which means “the catastrophe.” Al Nakba refers to the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians when they were violently forced off their land by Zionist militia groups in May 1948.
Organizers planned three days of remembering Al Nakba. The first occurred May 15, at Saint Jude Melkite Catholic Church in downtown Miami. 40 people gathered to give personal and historical presentations, share food provided by Al-Awda ( the Palestinian Right to Return Coalition) and read stories of those who experienced forced removal from their homes and land. It was very moving. As one Palestinian speaker explained, “That night I cried too, as I tried to sleep alongside thousands on the ground. Would I ever see my home again?”
The next day, organizers posted on social media sites to defend Rasmea Odeh, an Arab American activist in Chicago being politically targeted by the U.S. government. Although Odeh is charged with immigration fraud, activists around the U.S. say she is being targeted because of her powerful activism for Palestinian liberation, especially concerning women and girls. Across the country, mobilizations are under way for her June 10 court date in Detroit. Supporters can learn more and sign the petition at www.stopfbi.net.
On May 17, Palestinian solidarity activists met again to watch the Oscar nominated documentary Five Broken Cameras. The documentary is told from the perspective of a Palestinian participating in non-violent resistance to the partition wall being built through the land. The U.S. government funds Israel with more than $3 billion per year, while Israel ignores the Obama administration calls to stop building new settlements.
Organizer Cassia Laham, from People’s Opposition to War, Imperialism, and Racism (POWIR) said, “It is important to remember that Al Nakba is not just an historical event. It is still ongoing as illegal settlements are continuously being built on Palestinian land. The U.S. government should stop sending our tax dollars to Israeli.”
Activists discussed the current struggle of the Palestinian people, including the growing international movement for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. Muhammed Malik, local Palestinian American organizer and former member of Students for Justice in Palestine at Florida International University, said, “Although the mainstream media doesn’t cover it, activists are constantly winning victories. I am hopeful that we will see justice for the Palestinian people.”

19 मई 2014, सिंगरौली। राज्य प्रशासन और पुलिस के सौतेल व्यवहार के खिलाफ और महान में चल रहे वन सत्याग्रह के समर्थन में कई संगठन एकजुट हो गए हैं। आज वैढ़न में कलेक्टर ऑफिस के बाहर विशाल धरना का आयोजन किया गया।
सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं ने मांग किया कि अमिलिया में आयोजित फर्जी ग्राम सभा प्रस्ताव के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज की जाय। संगठनों ने चार वन सत्याग्रहियों की रात के बारह बजे जिस तरह पुलिस ने सोते में गिरफ्तार किया उसकी कड़ी निंदा की। साथ ही, उन्होंने महान संघर्ष समिति के कार्यकर्ता बेचनलाल साह के तत्काल रिहाई की भी मांग की। अमिलिया निवासी बेचनलाल को महान जंगल को बचाने के प्रयास करने की वजह से अनैतिक रुप से जेल में रखा गया है। संगठनों ने चेतवानी देते हुए कहा कि अगर इसी तरह पुलिस सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं को फर्जी केस में फंसाती रही तो इसे बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जायेगा।
महान संघर्ष समिति के कार्यकर्ता विजय शंकर सिंह भी उन चार वन सत्याग्रहियों में शामिल थे जिन्हें पुलिस हिरासत में लिया गया था । उन्होंने कहा कि, “इन फर्जी केस से हमलोग डरने वाले नहीं हैं और हम अपनी लड़ाई को जारी रखेंगे। इस तरह की धमकियों से हम और मजबूत होते हैं। हमलोग मांग करते हैं कि बेचनलाल जी को तुरंत रिहा किया जाय और फर्जी ग्राम सभा मामले में एफआईआर दर्ज हो”।
आज 500 सौ से भी अधिक ग्रामीणों ने वैढ़न पहुंचकर स्थानीय प्रशासन का दरवाजा खटखटाया। हालांकि कल से ही ग्रामीणों को वैढ़न पहुंचने से रोकने के लिए कई तरह से दबाव बनाया गया। इस शांतिपूर्ण धरना में मयूर संगठन, किसान आदिवासी विस्थापित एकता मंच, सर्वहित सेवा संस्थान, अमृता सेवा संस्थान, सुविधा सेवा संस्थान जैसे संगठनों ने भाग लिया। संगठनों ने सिंगरौली में लंबे समय से चल रहे पुलिसिया आत्याचार और गुंडागर्दी के खिलाफ एक होने की बात कही। वक्ताओं ने कहा कि हाल ही में कई ऐसी घटनाएँ हुई हैं जिससे पता चलता है कि सिंगरौली में आम जनता पुलिस से त्रस्त हो चुकी है। सभा को संबोधित करते हुए मयूर संगठन के विकास पांडे ने कहा कि, सिंगरौली की जनता कंपनियों से त्रस्त है और इसके खिलाफ लंबी लड़ाई की जरुरत है।
राज्य प्रशासन जाली ग्राम सभा के प्रस्ताव के बारे एमएसएस सदस्यों की लगातार शिकायतों पर अपने पैर खींच रहा है। इसी ग्राम सभा के आधार पर केन्द्रीय सरकार ने महान कोल ब्लॉक को दूसरे चरण की पर्यावरण मंजूरी दी है। हालांकि इसी महीने पुलिस ने आधी रात को नींद से जगाकर चार वन सत्याग्रहियों को गिरफ्तार करने में कोई देरी नहीं की। 40 घंटे की पुलिस हिरासत के बाद चार वन सत्याग्रहियों में से तीन को जमानत दे दिया गया जबकि बेचनलाल साह अभी भी जेल में ही हैं।
ग्रीनपीस इंडिया की सीनियर कैंपेनर प्रिया पिल्लई ने कहा, “जिस तरह से महान संघर्ष समिति के कार्यकर्ताओं को गिरफ्तार किया गया, उससे स्पष्ट है कि पुलिस और प्रशासन राज्य की शक्ति को महान कोयला खदान के खिलाफ चल रहे आंदोलन को दबाने के लिए उपयोग कर रही है। हमलोग पिछले तीन महीनों से फर्जी ग्राम सभा के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज करवाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं, जिसपर कोई सुनवाई नहीं हुई है। लेकिन फर्जी केस में सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं को फंसाने का काम सिर्फ एक दिन में ही हो गया। मध्यप्रदेश पुलिस का इस तरह का रवैया हमें पूरी तरह से अस्वीकार है”।
किसान आदिवासी विस्थापित एकता मंच की तरफ से एकता ने कहा कि, “सरकार का काम जनता की सेवा है लेकिन बढ़ते औद्योगिकरण के साथ ही उसने कंपनियों की सेवा को चुन लिया है। पुलिस-प्रशासन विकास के नाम पर कंपनियों द्वारा हजारों आदिवासियों और दूसरे ग्रामीणों के अधिकारों को छीनने में उनकी मदद कर रही है। इस कंपनी-प्रशासन गठजोड़ ने स्थानीय समुदायों में जिस तरह की अराजकता लेकर आया है उससे न्याय, शांति, समानता या स्वतंत्रता जैसे शब्द अपने अर्थ खो चुके हैं”।
महान संघर्ष समिति की तरफ से अमिलिया के निवासी उजराज सिंह खैरवार, हीरामणी सिंह गोंड और प्रिया पिल्लई ने फर्जी ग्राम सभा प्रस्ताव के खिलाफ माडा थाना में शिकायत दर्ज करवाया है। साथ ही पुलिस अधिक्षक के पास भी आवेदन दिया गया लेकिन अभी तक कोई कार्यवाई नहीं की गयी है।
सभी संगठनों ने एसपी से फर्जी ग्राम सभा के खिलाफ तत्काल एफआईआर दर्ज करने और बेचनलाल साह को तुरंत रिहा करने की मांग की।

फर्जी ग्राम सभा- 6 मार्च 2013 को अमिलिया में वनाधिकार पर विशेष ग्राम सभा आयोजित किया गया था। इस ग्राम सभा में 184 लोग उपस्थित थे लेकिन आरटीआई से मिले ग्राम सभा के प्रस्ताव में 1125 लोगों के हस्ताक्षर हैं। इनमें कई ऐसे हैं जो तीन साल पहले मर चुके हैं। इसके अलावा 27 अमिलिया निवासियों ने लिखित रुप से शिकायत दर्ज कराया है कि वे उस ग्राम सभा में उपस्थित नहीं थे।
